Every post on your site has a ‘type’. The default types for WordPress are ‘post’ and ‘page’, but you can create your own Custom Post Types as well, which can be useful to manage content in the admin, and to logically separate out content on your website.
With our Post Type segmentation option, you can now group visitors based on the post type that they have viewed. This is useful to allow you to build sets of users that are interested in specific content.
For instance, you might choose to setup different segments for visitors that are interested ‘Events’. If your event content is managed via a Custom Post Type, you can set this post type as the condition for the segment, and everyone that visits one of these pages will be added to this group.
Using this segment, you can then show content specific to this group on other pages of your site, giving them more of what they are interested in.
Creating Post Type-Based Segments
You can access PersonalizeWP’s segmentation tools by going to WP-Admin > Personalize > Dashboard > Segmentation.
On this screen, you can view a paginated list of all segments currently active and inactive, including the type, reason and a count of all visitor profiles in each group.
Create Segment
Clicking on Create Segment takes you to the screen where you can create a new grouping. You enter a name for your segment and then choose Type > Post Type from the dropdown.
After making this choice, your screen will then change to allow you to choose conditions.
For this segment type, the dropdown field will allow you to select the post type that you want to monitor.
You can add as many post types as you wish by adding multiple items, and you can choose to use OR / AND matching if you choose more than one post type.
Click on the button to Create Segment and return to the list screen.
Using Post Type-Based Segments
You can choose a segment in the Personalize sidebar for any block that you can selected in the Block Editor.
Segments has it’s own dropdown, and you can select any of the segments that are active. In this instance, choose your post type-based segment and choose the behaviour for that block (show/hide) if the visitor meets that criteria.
You can combine a segment with personalization rules and lead score values to create highly targeted content.
Segmentation Actions
Visitors are automatically added to segments when they meet the criteria. For instance, if you have a segment for ‘Visited Events Custom Post Type’, then when a user visits a page of that post type, they will be added to that group immediately.
