4. How you could use Content Variations on your website.
Why You Should Use Content Variations
Content variations help you create a more personalized experience for your visitors. Here are three top reasons to use them:
1. Improved User Experience
Tailoring content to individual preferences makes your site more relevant and engaging, leading to a smoother user journey.
2. Increased Conversions
Targeted content based on visitor behavior or interests encourages meaningful actions, such as product purchases or form submissions, boosting conversion rates.
3. Enhanced Relevance
By showing content that aligns with visitors’ needs, you keep them engaged and ensure they see what matters most to them, increasing overall interaction.
How to insert the Content Variations Block
1. To get started, navigate to the WordPress Block Editor and click the Block Inserter (the blue “+” icon in the top-left corner). Here, you can:
2. Find the Content Variations block within the blocks menu or search for “Content Variations”, the block will be shown with a pink PersonalizeWP icon.
3. Once you’ve added the block to your page, you will be prompted to add your “fallback” or default content, this is what will be shown as standard.
You can add any of your usual content, patterns or block types into the container, just as you normally would.
For example: you could choose to show more general information like a new product range or a more general offer which will appeal to a wider group of people.

Adding Content Variations
1. Once you’re happy with your default content, you can then start to add your content variations. When you add the Content Variations Block, you will automatically have an option for ‘Variation 1’ in the left-hand side list view.
2. You can either select your content variations from the left-hand side list view or you can select your content variation block and click on the variation from the on-page toolbar.
3. You can add as many variations as you need, with all of your usual content, block types or patterns. To add a new variation, you can either duplicate an already existing variation or you can add a new variation by clicking the + icon on the toolbar.

Applying Personalization Rules and Segments
Once your variations are set up, it’s time to target your audience.
1. Use the Personalize menu on the right-hand side of the editor to apply rules, segments, or lead-scoring conditions to each variation.
2. Select your chosen variation and then go to the Personalize menu panel on the right-hand side of the WordPress editor.
Here you can set your variation to show for specific personalization rules, segments or lead scores.

For example: Let’s say you wanted to target previous customers who are browsing via mobile devices, to encourage them to download your app.
You could add a content variation showing an offer specific to them, with a CTA directing them to the app store. Then you would go to the personalize menu and select the personalization rule ‘Device Type – Mobile’ and add another called ‘Purchased Product’.
This will then show the content variation to visitors who have made a purchase via your website and who are using a mobile device.
Advanced Use Cases for the Content Variations Block
Content variations offer a personalized experience that can enhance user engagement and boost conversions. Here are four key use cases:
1. Location-Based Personalization
Personalizing content based on a visitor’s location helps make the experience more relevant. For example, you could create different content variations which each target visitors from a different country, showing shipping information or specific offers for their region. This not only makes the experience feel more tailored but also improves the likelihood of conversions by offering geographically relevant information.
2. Target by Browsing Behavior
If a visitor has browsed a specific product category, show them related product imagery or a targeted CTA. For example, if a user has viewed kitchenware items, you could display a content variation featuring related kitchen gadgets or a discount on those items. This type of content variation boosts conversions by aligning your messaging with the visitor’s interests.
3. Time-Based Personalization
You can personalize content based on the time of day or the day of the week. For instance, if your restaurant business features daily specials, you could create a series of content variations for each day showing the most relevant information using one singular block.
4. Device-Specific Content
Create content targeting the device your visitors are using. For example, on mobile devices, you could show a more compact, visually optimized image or offer mobile-specific promotions. While on desktop, you might want to display larger images or more detailed product descriptions. Adapting your content to the device allows for the best possible user experience for every visitor, regardless of their device type.
