How to Set Up Location-Based Content for Black Friday
To target specific countries during Black Friday, you will need to use location-based display conditions within the block editor.
PersonalizeWP includes two location-based rules for visitors based in the UK and the US but if you’d like to target other specific countries, follow these easy steps:
1. Navigate to the main PersonalizeWP Dashboard and select ‘Personalization’. To create a new location-based display condition, click the pink ‘Create rule’ button in the top right corner.
2. At this screen, you will be prompted to add a ‘Rule Name’, select a ‘Category’ and 3x ‘Conditions’.
Let’s say you want to create a new rule to target users based in Germany, you will need to set a title for the rule like ‘Germany-based visitors’ and then select the ‘location’ category.
For the 3x conditions, you will need to select ‘User Location’ > ‘Is Equal To’ > ‘Germany’.
When you’re happy with your options, click the pink ‘create rule’ button at the bottom of the screen.
Note: You can add more than one country to the rule by clicking the ‘+ Add’ link below ‘Conditions’. This could be useful if you want to target European countries, as you can group them together in one display condition.
3. After creating your new rule, it’s time to put it into action!
Navigate to the page you want to use it on, select a specific content block and then go to the ‘Personalize’ menu in the right hand side.
Under ‘RULES’ you will see a drop-down menu where you can find your newly created rule.
Then make sure that under ‘THEN TAKE THE FOLLOWING ACTION’ it says ‘show block’.
4. Publish your page and that’s it! You just created a location-based display condition to target users in a specific country.
In this case, visitors based in other countries will not see the orange promotional message, only visitors based in Germany, allowing you to provide tailored messaging.
Optional: You can also click the ‘+’ icon within the right-hand Personalize menu to combine different display conditions. This will allow you to show or hide content blocks to visitors based in multiple different countries, at different times, on a specific day of the week – the possibilities are endless.
